Early Life
Victoria Ruffo was born on May 31, 1962 in Mexico City, Mexico. She has two sisters, Gabriela and Marcela, both of whom also work in show business.
Telenovelas
Ruffo began appearing in telenovelas in 1980. That year, she had supporting roles in “Conflictos de un médico” and “Al rojo vivo,” both produced by Ernesto Alonso for Televisa. Ruffo continued working with Alonso for Televisa over the next two years, appearing in “Quiéreme siempre” and “En busca del paraíso.” She went on to land her breakthrough role in 1983, starring opposite Guillermo Capetillo in “La fiera.” The series ran for 230 episodes through 1984. Ruffo subsequently starred opposite Valentín Trujillo in “Juana Iris,” which aired in 1985. Next, from 1987 to 1988, she starred opposite Juan Ferrara in “Victoria.” Ruffo went on to star in “Simplemente María” from 1989 to 1990; her co-stars were Manuel Saval and Jaime Garza. After a short break from telenovelas, Ruffo returned in 1993 to star in “Capricho.” Her next role was starring alongside Ariel López Padilla and Paulina Rubio in “Pobre niña rica,” which ran from 1995 to 1996. Ruffo’s final starring role of the decade was in the 1998 telenovela “Vivo por Elena,” playing the titular poor young woman.

In the 1990s, Ruffo earned TVyNovela Award nominations for her leading roles in “Victoria,” “Simplemente María,” “Capricho,” and “Vivo por Elena.” She garnered another nomination for her role in 2005’s “La madrastra,” and also won the Premios Bravo Award for Best First Actress for that role. Ruffo finally won the TVyNovela Best Actress trophy for her work in the first season of “Corona de lágrimas.” Among her other accolades, she earned Premios People en Español nominations for her roles in “En nombre del amor” and “Triunfo del amor.”
Personal Life
In 1992, Ruffo married actor and comedian Eugenio Derbez . They had a son, José, before divorcing in 1997. José later became an actor like his parents. Ruffo wed her second husband, Mexican politician Omar Fayad, in 2001; he went on to become governor of Hidalgo in 2016. She also supported his successful senatorial campaign. Together, they have twins named Victoria and Anuar who were born on August 11, 2004.
