Early Life and Education
Maye Musk was born as Maye Haldeman on April 19, 1948 in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada to Winnifred and Joshua, the latter a chiropractor, aviator, and politician. She has a twin sister named Kaye, plus three other siblings. In 1950, the family moved to Pretoria, South Africa, and for over ten years spent time searching for the fabled Lost City of the Kalahari in the Kalahari Desert. Musk had the first taste of her future modeling career in 1969, when she became a finalist in the Miss South Africa beauty pageant. For her higher education, Musk attended the University of the Orange Free State in South Africa and then the University of Toronto in Canada. She earned master’s degrees from both, in dietetics and nutritional science, respectively.

Other Endeavors
Beyond modeling, Musk runs a dietitian business and gives presentations around the world. In 1996, she published the book “Feel Fantastic” to provide diet and lifestyle tips for healthy aging. Musk later penned a memoir entitled “A Woman Makes a Plan: Advice for a Lifetime of Adventure, Beauty, and Success,” which came out in 2019. In 2023, she earned an honorary doctorate in dietetics from her alma mater the University of the Free State in South Africa.
Personal Life
In 1970, Musk married Errol Musk, whom she had gone to high school with. He was a South African businessman and politician. The couple had three children, Elon, Kimbal, and Tosca, before divorcing in 1979. Elon went to live with his father, and Kimbal joined him four years later. After Elon moved to Canada in 1989, Maye Musk moved there with Tosca.
