Early Life

Liza Weil was born Liza Rebecca Weil on June 5, 1977, in Passaic, New Jersey. She comes from a Reform Jewish family of actors. Her parents, Marc and Lisa, took her with them when their comedy troupe, The Madhouse Company of London, toured Europe. Liza’s sister, Samantha, is the mother of actress Scarlett Estevez, who is best known for playing Trixie Espinoza on “Lucifer.” Weil initially wanted to become an archaeologist because she liked the “Indiana Jones” film series and had a crush on its star, Harrison Ford . When Liza was seven years old, her family moved to Lansdale, Pennsylvania, not far from Philadelphia. She has said that she was an average student and that she focused on her budding acting career more than she focused on her studies. Weil frequently went to New York City for auditions, and she acted in off-Broadway productions as well as productions in Philadelphia. Because of her acting jobs, she graduated from North Penn High School during the summer instead of the regular term. She later earned a degree from Columbia University. Personal Life

Liza married actor Paul Adelstein in November 2006 in a Reform Jewish ceremony. Adelstein is best known for playing Paul Kellerman on “Prison Break” and Dr. Cooper Freedman on “Private Practice.” Weil and Adelstein co-starred in the films “Order Up” (2007), “Frenemy” (2008), and “The Missing Person” (2009). Liza and Paul welcomed a daughter, Josephine, on April 20, 2010. In March 2016, Weil filed for divorce and requested joint custody of Josephine. The divorce was finalized the following year. From mid-2016 to early 2019, Liza was in a relationship with actor Charlie Weber , who co-starred with her on “How to Get Away with Murder.” In 2007, Weil narrated a public service announcement for the American Diabetes Association’s Step Up to Fight Diabetes event.
